September General Meeting

The recording of the September General Meeting is here. The discussion included:

• When to give up on a hive (too few frames), and combine it with another hive.
• What to do with “wet” frames – that is, frames that have just been extracted and are coated with honey.
• Robbing screens (see below).
• Better to harvest honey early in the morning – less chance of creating a robbing frenzy.
• Ways to get you bees out of your supers when removing them to harvest honey:
  • Blow them out.
  • Brush.
  • Fume board – Fisher Bee-Quick.
• Running supers less than full. E.g., 9 frames in a 10 frame super. The comb is deeper, and easier to remove with an uncapping knife.
• Mead production. Arthur’s recommendation: don’t use Tar Weed honey.
