Edward Hsieh is a postdoctoral researcher working in Dr. Liz Walsh’s lab at the USDA-ARS Bee Breeding Facility in Baton Rouge, LA. He graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2024 where he was co-advised by Drs. Adam Dolezal and May Berenbaum. He studied the effects of interactive stressors on honey bee physiology, examining a broad range of topics including viruses, pesticides, nutrition, and changes to gut microbiota. Currently he is investigating chalkbrood resistance in honey bee stocks, and remains interested in honey bee physiology in general, especially queens. In his spare time he enjoys birding, wildlife photography, and buying books that he never gets around to reading.
