Where to start for beginners enthusiast backyard beekeeping
Question
My family has a 1 yard land in San Jose area ( Santa Clara County near Calero lake) and I would like to start beekeeping but not sure where to get some experience before I get started. And what are the options as far as letting someone keep the hives in my land and managing them or buy the hives and learn to keep them by myself.

Yes, I would like to get a first impression on what beekeeping a hive or 2 in my property will involve.
We do live in this property, and we have a well as source of water.
So, the next opening to visit the Apiary would be on August 8? {Second Saturday of August at 9 Am) or it would be different for August?

Hi Nadia,
You asked how to get information on taking up beekeeping as a hobby, or alternatively, having somebody keep hives at your property. I would recommend coming out to our Apiary to get first-hand exposure to beekeeping. We provide a beekeeping suit for you, and we will have our local beekeepers introduce you to what goes on in beekeeping. We typically do this on the second Saturday of every month at 9 AM this time of year. It’s a great way to learn about what’s involved in beekeeping, and get a first impression of whether it’s something you’d like to do yourself or just have somebody do for you. Think of it as a try and buy opportunity! If you are interested in following up on this, let me know, and I will make sure that you have directions to find the Apiary, what to wear, etc.
if you really think that you’re more interested in having somebody put these on your property, we do have a Facebook group called Gilroy Beekeepers Association. You can post on that group and tell people approximately where your property is, and see if anybody is interested in putting bees on your property. You need to have water available on the property, so that it would be easy for the beekeeper to provide water to the bees.
